San Diego is known for its weather, but it’s not uncommon to have colorless skies, or to be in a colorless location. It’s also not uncommon to have skies with no clouds. Granted, when I did this shoot, it was early mid-day. I had no choice but to shoot at this time on this day because the person I was shooting had other plans on this day. My mindset on this portrait shot was to get the shot and capture the moment. This rest I’ll deal with is in post processing. I may have over done with color on this picture. But if you see the original picture in the slider below, I don’t mind the drastic color change. I’ll remember this picture, and I’ll tone it down a bit next time.

What I learned and what I would do differently?
One thing I would have done, is find better locations for a shoot. It was hot that day, harsh sun light, and I had another shoot to do later that day. As for Photoshop editing, I used a lot of blending options for the sky and water… and that’s pretty much it. I have added clouds, birds ducks, etc… in other pictures. I’ve already overdone it with color, so I didn’t want to add more to it. I don’t mind adding things in pictures that didn’t exist in the original photograph. When I some extreme edits for friends on Instagram, I like to stock their Instagram comments to see what people say. What do you think about composite post processing edits?
